Think of Intermittent Fasting (IF) not as a diet but more as an eating pattern that can improve your health, size, and the way you feel about yourself after seeing the results.

Fasting isn’t a new concept, it’s been done since the beginning of time, particularly in the religious and spiritual sect. Today’s three most popular methods are the 16/8 (skipping breakfast and restricting your daily eating period to 8 hours, such as 1–9 p.m. then you fast for 16 hours in between), Eat-Stop-Eat (fasting for 24 hours, once or twice a week, eat sensibly on remaining days) and the 5:2 diet. (consuming only 500–600 calories on two non-consecutive days of the week, then eat normally the other 5 days).

The easiest and best way to start IF is with the 16/8; Fasting 16 hours, drinking only water, black coffee and tea. The chart above is an example; however, you can adjust the hours to fit your schedule to you get at least 16 to 18 hrs of fasting in. It isn’t as hard as you would think considering most people sleep 6-8 hours which count towards your fasting time. BNO’s employees are using the 16/8 method, however everyone adapts differently so give yourself 2-8 weeks to get comfortable with fasting.

Mark Mattson, a neuroscientist with Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore refers to IF as “metabolic switching” and states the health benefits include; Stabilizing blood sugar levels, increasing resistance to stress (which we all know is very bad for your body and mind), helps suppress Inflammation, improve resting heart rate, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol and improve memory and brain health.

On a personal note, my daughter started IF first then my husband, then I jumped in to see how I would do after seeing the results they were achieving. My daughter started in November 2019, to date she has lost 21 lbs, and several inches in her waist. My husband started in January 2020 and has lost 12 lbs, and is smaller in his waist, legs and backside, me, I started 8 weeks ago and have lost 9 lbs, my pants are loose on me and I am getting comments that I look thinner!
